The virtues of Patience

Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ibn Baz

Patience during trials and hardships is an act of devotion to Allah, the Most Glorious and Exalted. Allah says:

“And give good tidings to the patient.”

“Those who, when disaster strikes them, say, ‘Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.’”

“They are those upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is they who are rightly guided.”

[Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:155-157]

Allah also says:

“And be patient. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.”

[Surah Al-Anfal, 8:46]

And He says:

“Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.”

[Surah Az-Zumar, 39:10]

And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“Wondrous is the affair of the believer, for there is good for him in every matter. If something harmful befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him. And if something good happens to him, he is grateful, and that is good for him.”

So if a woman or a man is afflicted with worries or grief from matters of religion, from hostility with someone, from enmity with their parents, or from their neighbors, and they are patient and do nothing but good, they will have a great reward. Similarly, if they endure illnesses or sorrows such as the death of a loved one with patience, all of this carries immense goodness and great virtue. Yes.
