Ruling on a Muslim Killing a Christian for Insulting the Prophet ﷺ in Western Countries

السؤال :
جرى نقاشٌ بين بعضِ الأخوةِ في مسألةٍ وهي: هل يجبُ على المسلمِ الَّذي يقيمُ في بلادِ الغربِ لغرضِ الدِّراسةِ أو نحوِها إذا سمعَ أحدَ النَّصارى يسبُّ النَّبيَّ -صلَّى اللهُ عليهِ وسلَّمَ- فقالَ بعضُ الإخوةِ: يجبُ عليهِ أنْ يقومَ ويقتلَهُ، استدلالًا بقتلِ عبدِ اللهِ بنِ أنيسٍ لخالدِ بنِ سفيانَ الهذليِّ .
Question:
A discussion took place among some brothers regarding an issue: Should a Muslim who resides in Western countries for the purpose of studying or otherwise, if he hears a Christian insulting the Prophet (peace be upon him), some brothers said: he should stand up and kill him, citing the killing of Khalid bin Sufyan al-Hudhali by Abdullah bin Anis.
لا، ليسَ بظاهرٍ، فرقٌ بينَ أنيسٍ وبينَ هذا الَّذي.. ذاك في دولةِ الإسلامِ وفي عزَّةٍ ومنعةٍ، وهذا ليس في عزَّةٍ ومنعةٍ، لكن عليه أن ينكرَ ويداعيَه ويحاكمَه، يمكن يحاكمه، يحاكمُه عندَ أولئك الكفرةِ؛ لأنَّهم عندَهم مبادئٌ ممكن تنفعه، يعني مثل التَّعدِّي على حقوقِ الآخرين، مثلًا مثل ما يدَّعون من احترامِ الأديانِ واحترامِ الآخرين ممكن، يمكنُ أنْ يحاكمَه، أمَّا أنْ يقومَ ويقتلَه فهذا لا ينتجُ شيئًا، يُؤخَذُ ويُقتَلُ ويُعذَّبُ، ويُعذَّبُ كلُّ مَن يتَّصلُ به .
Answer:
No, it is not apparent (that this should be done). There is a difference between the case of Anis and this situation. That occurred in the Islamic state, under its power and protection, whereas this (situation) is not under such power and protection. However, he should denounce it and prosecute him, and he can take him to court. He can prosecute him in the courts of those disbelievers because they have principles that might benefit him, such as the transgression against the rights of others, as they claim to respect religions and others. Therefore, he can prosecute him. As for standing up and killing him, this will not produce anything. He will be arrested, killed, and tortured, and all those connected to him will be tortured.
