قال الإمام ابن القيم رَحِمَهُ الله: «أصول الخطايا كلها ثلاثة:
Imam Ibn al-Qayyum said: “The roots of all sins are three:
١ – الكِبْر: وهو الذي أصار إبليس إلى ما أصاره.
1. Pride, which led Satan to his disobedience.
٢ – الحِرْص: وهو الذي أخرج آدم من الجنة.
2. Greed, which caused Adam to be expelled from Paradise.
٣ – الحَسَد: وهو الذي جرَّأَ أحد ابني آدم على أخيه.
3. Envy, which drove one son of Adam to transgress against his brother.
فمن وُقِيَ شر هذه الثلاثة فقد وُقِيَ الشر، فالكفر من الكِبْر، والمعاصي من الحِرص، والبغي والظلم من الحسَد»
Whoever is protected from the evils of these three has indeed been protected from evil. Disbelief stems from pride, disobedience from greed, and wrongdoing and injustice from envy.”
