Breaking covenants from the traits of the Jews

Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside? Nay! the truth is most of them believe not. (Surah Baqarah Ayah 100)

Ata’ said: “These are the covenants that were between the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Jews not to assist the polytheists in fighting him, so they broke them like the actions of Banu Qurayzah and al-Nadir.”

Al-Hasan Al-Basri said:  “Nay! the truth is most of them believe not” he said, “There is not a promise that they make, but they break it and abandon it. They make a promise today and break it tomorrow.”

They are those with whom you made a covenant, but they break their covenant every time and they do not fear Allah. (Surah Anfal Ayah 56)
