“And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): ‘Worship Allāh (Alone), and reject (or keep away from) Taghut (False Deities).)’” [Qur’ān, Surah 16: 36]
“Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold..” [Qur’ān, Surah Baqarah 2: 256]
Whoever shuns the rivals of Allah, the idols, and those that Shaytan calls to be worshipped besides Allah, whoever believes in Allah’s Oneness. Tafsir Ibn Kathir
Why do not the rabbis and the religious learned men forbid them from uttering sinful words and from eating illegal things. [Qur’ān, Surah Al-Maidah 5: 63]
Ali bin Abi Talib once gave a speech, which he started by praising Allah and thanking Him. He then said, `O people! Those who were before you were destroyed because they committed sins and the Rabbis and learned men did not forbid them from evil.
Tariq ibn Ashyam reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever says there is no God but Allah, and disbelieves in what is worshiped besides Allah, his property and his life are sacred and he will be held accountable to Allah.
Sahih Muslim – Book of Faith 23
Say ((ﷺ)): “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Exceed not the limits in your religion (by believing in something) other than the truth, and do not follow the vain desires of people who went astray in times gone by, and who misled many, and strayed (themselves) from the Right Path.”
They used not to forbid one another from the Munkar (wrong, evil-doing, sins, polytheism, disbelief, etc.) which they committed. Vile indeed was what they used to do. Surah Al-Maa’idah Ayah 78)
It was narrated that ‘Ubadah bin As-Samit said:
“We pledged to the Messenger of Allah to hear and obey, both in times of ease and hardship, when we felt energetic and when we felt tired, that we would not contend with the orders of whomever was entrusted with it, that we would was entrusted with it, that we would stand firm in the way of truth wherever we may be, and that we would not fear the blame of the blamers.“
(Sunan an-Nasa’i : 4149)
Advise of Luqman to his son:
“O my son! Aqim-is-Salat (perform As-Salat), enjoin (people) for Al-Ma’ruf (Islamic Monotheism and all that is good), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief in the Oneness of Allah, polytheism of all kinds and all that is evil and bad), and bear with patience whatever befall you. Verily! These are some of the important commandments ordered by Allah with no exemption. (Surah Luqman Ayah 17)
Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful. (Surah Al-Imraan Ayah 104)
Not sitting in gatherings where falsehood is mentioned
And those who do not witness falsehood, and if they pass by some evil play or evil talk, they pass by it with dignity. (Surah Furqan Ayah 72)
And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Quran) that when you hear the Verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them.
Forbidding Evil according to ones ability
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; and if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; and if he cannot, then with his heart [by feeling that it is wrong] – and that is the weakest of faith.” (Narrated by Muslim, 49)
