Khutbah – Ramadhan

All praise is due to Allah. We praise him, we seek His help, we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and our evil deeds. Whoever Allah guides, there is none to misguide him. Whoever Allah leads astray, there is none to guide him. I testify there is no one worthy of worship but Allah alone, without any partners, and that Muhammad, peace, and blessings be upon him, is His servant and His messenger.

Allah Almighty said, “O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.” (Surah Ali-Imran:102)

And Allah Almighty said, “O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over you.” (Surah An-Nisa:1)

And Allah Almighty said, “O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger he has indeed achieved a great achievement ” (33:70-71)

The truest word is the Book of Allah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The evilest matters are newly invented matters, for every newly invented matter is an innovation. Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

O believers, the blessed month of Ramadan is a great month, abundant in goodness and blessings, and filled with gifts and rewards. It is a great educational and spiritual school for Muslims, where they can learn great virtues, perfect manners, refine their behavior, and strengthen their faith and guidance in a way that cannot be found in other months. Therefore, it is incumbent upon those who have witnessed this great season to benefit from its immense blessings and benefits and to take advantage of its blessed school. Allah Almighty says,

“O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the Pious /righteous)” (Quran 2:183).

Yes, O servants of Allah, “that you may become righteous” through fasting, which has great wisdom, purposes, and goals that every fasting person should strive to achieve.

O servants of Allah, fasting is not merely a matter of abstaining from food and drink, rather it includes acts, goals, and objectives that must be achieved. If a servant of Allah does not achieve them, his share of fasting may be weak, and perhaps his fasting will be ineffective. Reflect on the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a Hadith narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) and reported by Ahmad in his Musnad: “There are people who fast and get nothing from their fast except hunger,” The phrase “except hunger and thirst” means that he has deprived himself of food and drink during his fast but has not gained anything from it except hunger and thirst, meaning that his fasting is ineffective or weak. This is one aspect, O servants of Allah, that must be understood in this great matter, so that one may complete his fasting and complete his worship, thereby increasing his reward with Allah the Almighty and benefiting greatly in this blessed school of fasting.

O believers: It is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim that our Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Fasting is a protection, [i.e. from acts of disobedience in this world and from hell in the next. Pt. vi.] and when the day of the fast of any of you comes he must not use vile language or raise his voice, and if anyone reviles him or tries to fight with him he should tell him he is fasting.” Perhaps you can find in this hadith a great guidance to benefit from the school of fasting and its refinement of morals, correction of behavior, and framing of the self on the path of truth and guidance. In fasting, there is a restraint of the self, “Fasting is a protection,” meaning that if a person achieves his fasting and completes it, it becomes a shield and a protector for him. It is said that it protects him from sins and transgressions, and it is also said that it protects him from the Fire and the wrath of the Almighty, and both meanings complement each other and are intended in this great hadith. The servant in his fasting, if he employs it for its perfection and completeness, it benefits him by keeping him away from sins, avoiding mistakes and evil deeds, and protecting him from anything that angers the Lord of the earth and the heavens. It also benefits him by providing him with protection, cover, and salvation from the Fire and the wrath of the Almighty, who is glorified and exalted.

Oh believers, in this same chapter, the noble Prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions and does not abandon foolishness, Allah is not in need of his leaving food and drink ” The issue, O servants of Allah, in fasting is not just to leave food and drink as one pleases, but fasting is a cultivation of the souls, a refinement of morals, and an elevation of values and manners to the highest levels. Therefore, whoever does not abandon false speech, which is falsehood in all its forms, ignorance, and acting upon it, then Allah has no need for him to abandon his food and drink.

O servants of Allah, fear Allah Almighty in your fasting, and watch over Allah in all your actions. O you who are under the care of Allah, strive to complete and perfect your fasting to benefit greatly from this blessed school of fasting, so that this fasting may elevate us all to virtuous manners and refined ethics, and to good and kind treatment.

We ask Allah, Exalted be He, by His beautiful names and sublime attributes, and that He is the only God worthy of worship, to grant us all the blessings and benefits of Ramadan, and to help us in it to say and do what pleases Him, and to improve our entire situation and not leave us to ourselves even for a moment. He is indeed All-Hearing, and He is the one in whom we place our hope, and He is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of our affairs.

Second Sermon:

Praise be to Allah, much praise, and I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger; may Allah bless him and his family and companions. As for what follows, O believers: Fear Allah, the Most High.

Servants of Allah: Fasting people vary in their fasting, even if they all agree to refrain from food, drink, and other things that break the fast from dawn until sunset. They differ greatly depending on their level of devotion and benefit from fasting. The difference between them is vast and varied. One of the greatest things that shows you the difference between fasting people is the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him, when he was asked, “Which fasting person has the greatest reward with Allah?” He said: “The one who remembers Allah the most.” This is a sound hadith reported by Imam Ibn al-Qayyum in his book “Al-Wabil Al-Sayyib.” From it, he deduced a great rule in the matter of worship, which is that the greatest reward of the people in every act of worship is for those who remember Allah the most in it. Therefore, the reward of the worshippers, the fasting people, the pilgrims, the Umrah performers, and the people of every obedience is in proportion to their remembrance of Allah in it, whether they are few or many. Therefore, the greatest reward of the people in every act of worship is for those who remember Allah the most in it.

Oh fasting person: Preserve your fasting by frequently remembering Allah, especially by reciting the Noble Qur’an. Fill your time during your fasting with glorification, exaltation, praise, magnification, and remembrance of Allah the Exalted; for the reward of your fasting is proportionate to your remembrance of Allah in it. We ask Allah the Almighty to help us all in remembering Him, thanking Him, and worshiping Him well.

And know, may Allah protect you, that the most truthful speech is the speech of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace be upon him), and the worst matters are newly invented ones (in religion). Every innovation is a heresy, and every heresy is a deviation. So hold fast to the community, for the hand of Allah is with the community.

And Allah, the Majestic and Exalted, is sufficient for those who put their trust in Him and relied on Him and turn to Him in all their affairs. We ask Allah, the Majestic, and Exalted, that He does not entrust us except to Him, for He is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.

Send peace and blessings upon the Chosen Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah, as Allah commanded you to do so in His Book, and He said

Allah sends His Salat (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy, etc.) on the Prophet and also His angels too (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salat on (ask Allah to bless) him, and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation). (Surah Al-Ahzab Ayah 56)

And he (Prophet), may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: ((Whoever prays for Allah’s blessings upon me once, will be blessed for it by Allah ten times.).

O Allah, bestow Your favor on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad as You have bestowed Your favor on Ibrahim and on the family of Ibrahim, You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, You are Praiseworthy, Most Glorious.

May Allah be pleased with the Rightly Guided Caliphs, the Imams, the Guides, Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali, and be pleased with all of the Companions and those who followed them until the Day of Judgment.

O Allah, reinforce Islam and Muslims, O Allah, reinforce Islam and Muslims, O Allah, reinforce  Islam and Muslims, humiliate polytheism and polytheists, destroy the enemies of religion, and protect the possession of religion, O Lord of the worlds, O Allah, grant victory to those who support your religion, O Allah, grant victory to our brothers everywhere, O Allah, grant them victory in Palestine and everywhere, O Allah, grant them a resounding victory, O Allah, support them with your support and protect them with your protection, O Lord of Majesty and Honor. Oh Allah, protect us from the aggressors and usurpers, for they do not fail you. Oh, Allah, we make (Dua) to you against them and seek refuge in you. O Allah, give the ruler the insight to do what you love and accept, and help him in righteousness and piety, and direct him in his sayings and deeds, and clothe him in the garment of health and wellness, and grant him the righteous and sincere inner circle.

Oh, Allah, give our souls piety, purify them, You are better at purifying them, You are their guardian and their guardian. We ask you for Paradise and whatever word or deed brings us closer to it, and we seek refuge in You from Hell and whatever word or action brings us closer to it. O Allah, save us from the fire, O Allah, save us from the fire, O Allah, save us from the fire, O Allah, make every judgment you have made good for us, O Lord of the worlds. Oh Allah, reconcile our hearts, reconcile us, guide us to the paths of peace, bring us out of darkness into light, bless our hearing, our sight, our wives, our offspring, our wealth, and make us blessed wherever we are. Oh Allah, forgive us all our sins. You are the first and his last, to you belongs what is secret and what is public, O Allah, forgive us and our parents and the Muslims, the Muslim men and women, the believing men and women, the living among them, and the dead. Indeed, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful. And Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
