Types of Scholars.
There are three types of scholars:
Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen – May allah have mercy on him said:
- (Millat) Scholar of the Religion – It is the one that spreads the religion of Islam, he gives verdicts in the religion based on knowledge. He doesn’t care if what the Shariah indicates is in accordance with the whims of the people or not.
- State Scholar – It is one who looks at what the state wants, and gives them verdicts as they want, even if in it is deviation from the Book of Allah (Quran) and the Sunnah of his Messenger (ﷺ)
- Ummah Scholar – It is one who looks at what will make the people happy, if he sees people upon something he will give verdicts to please them. Then he will attempt to misinterpret the text from the Quran and Sunnah to be made in agreement of the whims of the people. We ask Allah to make us from the Scholars of the Millah (Religion) acting upon it.

العلماء ثلاثة أقسام
عالم مِلَّةْ، وعالم دولة، وعالم أمة –
– أما عالم الْمِلَّة: فهو الذي ينشر دين الإسلام، ويفتي بدين الإسلام عن علم، ولا يبالي بما دل عليه الشرع أوافق أهواء الناس أم لم يوافق.
-وأما عالم الدولة: فهو الذي ينظر ماذا تريد الدولة فيفتي بما تريد الدولة، ولو كان في ذلك تحريف كتاب الله وسنة رسوله-صلى الله عليه وسلم-.
-وأما عالم الأمة: فهو الذي ينظر ماذا يرضي الناس، إذا رأى الناس على شيء أفتى بما يرضيهم، ثم يحاول أن يحرف نصوص الكتاب والسنة من أجل موافقة أهواء الناس. نسأل الله أن يجعلنا من علماء الملة العاملين بها)
